Executive Director

Rabbi Jay Miller

Since 2002, Rabbi Miller has been the Executive Director of the Peninsula Clergy Network.  Rabbi Miller initially served as the staff person for the clergy steering committee that designed the proposal for the initial grants which funded the PCN from the Peninsula Community Foundation and the Walter and Elise Haas Fund.

Rabbi Miller’s rabbinic career includes serving synagogues and university campuses. From 1974-1994, he served as campus rabbi, primarily in San Diego CA.  He served Jewish students, collaborated with the diversity of campus clergy serving all students, and worked with university officials.

In 2001, he was named to the President’s Honor Roll of the American Professional Society on Child Abuse for bringing together clergy with social service, law enforcement, medical and education professionals. For the California Department of Health he has provided trainings for professionals through out California.

Rabbi Miller co-authored “A Local Official’s Guide to Working with Clergy and Congregations,” published by the Institute for Local Government in August, 2010. The ILG is the research institute of the California State Association of Counties and the League of California Cities.

Through the PCN Training Institute, Rabbi Miller, provides cities, counties, schools and non-profits with training on multi-faith diversity, and consultation on forming partnerships with clergy and congregations. This has included numerous Bay Area institutions and the Mayor’s Office in the City of Riverside, CA, the Department of Senior Services, Westchester County, New York, and the EXPO 2010, Shanghai, China. 

Rabbi Miller shared in planning and was a presenter at a university seminar in Shanghai in September, 2010, in conjunction with the EXPO.  The seminar on religion in China, included faculty from major Chinese universities.  He also met with clergy at numerous Catholic and Christian Churches in Shanghai.

Rabbi Miller’s board positions include:  The Center for Civility and Democratic Engagement at the Goldman School of Public Policy, UC Berkeley; Northern California Board of Rabbis; Chair, Committee on Adolescents, San Diego County Commission on Youth and Children; Vice-Chair of the Regional Advisory Board of the Florida Department of Drug Rehabilitation; Executive Committee, California Professional Society on the Abuse of Children; Thrive: the Alliance of San Mateo County Non-Profits; and the Daly City Peninsula Partnership Collaborative.
